Looking at it superficially, the most valuable asset of the tire seems to be the tread. When this has been used up, many believe that the tire is exhausted and thus should be discarded.
On closer analysis, however, the longest-lasting element of the tire is the carcass (the steel skeleton), which is made of difficult-to-dispose-of raw materials. Clearly, the true value of a tire does not exist in its tread, but in its structure.
Retreading can extend the life of tires. The application of a new tread to the carcass makes it possible for the tire’s life to last 60% to 80% longer.
Retreading offers the following advantages:
- Lower supplies costs – In a hypothetical example, when a new tire costs 1,000 € and 100.000 Km run, allows retreading for € 500 that the tire can travel further 60,000 to 80,000 Km, in addition to the already 100,000 kilometers; in this way is not the average price € 1 per 100km (if you throw away the tires with worn tread), but € 0.83 for 100 Km (if retreaded tires and for another 80,000 Km uses). This represents a cost savings of about 17%.
- Lower disposal costs – Retreading of tires makes it possible to use the same carcass frequently, limiting the number of tires used (carcasses) and consequently the number of tires to be disposed of.
- Lower environmental impact – In addition to the economic benefits for the user, tire retreading make the most of necessary raw materials for tire production. This saves scarce and valuable resources (steel, oil and natural rubber among others). By retreading 70-80% of the used tire can be reused.

The tire retreading process combines craftsmanship with modern industrial approaches. Even with the most modern machines, which are equipped with the latest technology, automation and accuracy, one component remains indispensable: the people. Our employees are specially trained to analyze each individual carcass precisely and to determine whether it is suitable for retreading.
There are two methods for retreading tires: Warm renewal (in the form or in the pressure vessel) or cold retreading (by a preprinted profile). Carloni only uses warm renewed tires for construction equipment.
The manufacturing process of recycled tires consists of 6 operations:
The inspection: Each carcass externally and internally inspected for defects; the experience of the staff, the large number of checks and the high-tech machines reduce the number of errors to a minimum.
The preparation of the crater: damage to the carcass, which may have occurred during the polishing work, are identified and repaired. The housing is then processed with a chemical solution, so that the new tread will adhere to the carcass.
Installation: All kinds of rubber mixtures are applied by numerically controlled machines to the carcass; the choice of material used depends on the future use of the tire and is a result of years of experience in selecting the right suppliers.
The vulcanization: The carcass, which is now fully covered with the new materials, will now be cured under appropriate conditions of temperature and pressure. In order to obtain the desired tread pattern specially provided shapes may be used.
The final exam: This step is the last link in a chain of continuous quality checks, which are carried out throughout the process. This final check is to ensure that the finished tires meet all technical and aesthetic requirements of our quality standards.

The renewal process and the controls of the tires by Carloni made in accordance with the approvals of the German Federal Ministry of Transport (KBA), enshrined in regulation ECE 109th
This approval process consists of checking if specified conditions are taken into account during production. Furthermore, tests, measurements and checks on some of the reconstructed tires are carried out in a specially designated laboratory.
These rules ensure more cost-effective production, stimulate economic growth, guarantee quality, and offer safety and environmental protection in the operations, both in products and in services. But how does one recognize products that meet the standard? Look for a fidelity brand or an indication of a reference to the standard UNI.
A fidelity brand is a sign on the product (in some cases on the packaging), verifying that the product has passed the required tests and inspections at regular intervals.
Given the importance of the brand, it is important to understand how and by whom it is released.
The fidelity mark is issued by the process of “certification.” This certification is an action which is carried out by a third party (ie neither the manufacturer nor the customer) and accredits that a product or service conforms to specified requirements (in our case this is a regulation).
The certification and inspection bodies which carry out such activities are “accredited”. This means that these are checked at regular intervals to ensure their competence and independence.
If manufacturers specify at their own risk that their products comply with the standard and only a simple reference is given to a standard warranty, we speak of “Declaration of Conformity.”
Finally, there are other important factors that contribute -indirectly- to improve the quality of products and / or services, namely the certification of the management system (according to the UNI EN ISO 9001 for quality).
